I Want To Ride My (Gtech) Bicycle #review
By Jeannette | July 10, 2017
Has that got anyone singing the Queen song? Now firmly stuck in my head!
Regular readers will be aware that I had both-feet surgery and am due for two more (thankfully) separate operations this year, which has totally shattered my wellbeing for obvious reasons.
What I’m trying not to mention too much is the nerve damage I’ve suffered as a result of last year’s surgery, I don’t like to moan but OMG they hurt, walking any distance is tough and finding shoes that are remotely comfortable practically impossible so…..as I don’t drive, it’s really affected my getting out and about, which then brings me down.
Not nice eh? But thanks to the rather lovely people at Gtech I have managed to get to all D’s school performances during last week’s Proms Week and her Sports Day, which has been great as she’d be naturally upset if I hadn’t.
Here the bike is, a Gtech escent mountain bike and it is simply wonderful.
Can you see the battery underneath the crossbar? That is the magical (and pain-free for me) bit about the bike, it has the capacity to ride up to 30 miles on a full battery and has two settings, eco and max, of course you can ride the bike without the battery too.
Setting up the bike when it arrived was super-easy, just a question of adjusting the handle bar and saddle and charging up the battery.
The escent bike is perfect for all-terrains and I’ve tried it out on bumpy pot-hole filled roads, hills and off-road around a lake, the latter was wonderful to do as there’s no way I could walk that ATM.
Mostly I’ve used the bike on its “eco” setting and that’s been fine for me, the one time I tried it on “max” was a strange sensation, letting the bike do all the work, especially going up a hill!
Here’s what Gtech say:
“Boost your pedal power
The Gtech eBike will let you fall in love with cycling again. Ride it like a normal bike, but as soon as you pedal, you’ll feel the difference as a powerful lithium-ion battery and motor give you a boost whenever you need it. Hills will feel flatter, you’ll be able to explore further and arrive fresher with our electric bike.
Pure simplicity
Riding the Gtech eBike is very simple. You pedal to go faster and brake to slow down. There are no confusing gears to worry about. Simply pedal your Gtech electric bicycle for an easy journey. With our electronic bike there is no oily chain. We’ve replaced it with a clean carbon belt drive as used on high-performance motor cycles.”
The brakes are very effective, the smallest touch is enough and gear-changing is very easy too, a very smooth transition.
Charging the battery is easy, it comes with a battery charger and took about 2 hours from 23% to get it to full capacity, another amazing feature is that you can charge your phone from the battery as it has a little power port at the front – obviously you would need a connection cable but wouldn’t that be great for a long cycling/camping weekend?
I don’t think there’s anything I could find to dislike about the bike, it is perfect for those with feet/knee problems to still enjoy cycling and the difference it has made to me is immeasurable. Totally!
Gtech’s service is absolutely amazing too, offering a free next day delivery and their customer service team are very friendly too.
My cats loved the box the bike arrived in too:
As an aside, my father-in-law recently bought the Gtech AirRam and multi as a combination offer and he is absolutely delighted with them, he wouldn’t mind me mentioning that he’s 87 and was finding housework a bit of a challenge until he ordered these, bless him. The AirRam and multi are definitely going on my wish-list after hearing how he’s got on.
Disclosure: I was sent the Gtech escent bike for review purposes, my words and views are my own.

This is brilliant and such a good idea, I love that it can be pedal free! Definitely a good alternative to the car and for you with your feet – hope you’re feeling better soon and after the next operation.
p.s love the cats in the box!

Sorry to hear about your foot issues – I had an injury years ago which flares up occasionally and it can be so debilitating, you don’t realise until it happens just what an affect it can have. Glad the bike seems to help though x

This is amazing! I am not at all into bikes and did not know you could get a battery operated one! I need this in my life…I bought a bike on a whim a few years ago -big mistake…it was so heavy and I could hardly get up hills (yes majorly unfit!). I will have to consider a bike with a battery for sure. Hope it helps with getting out more x

I LOVE this!
So glad you’ve found a fun solution to get out and about!
We are quite a cycling family and we have a family trike for getting out with the kids! My oldest (6yrs) has learning disabilities and low muscle tone so she can’t sit on or pedal a regular bike… I’m thinking I might need to be upgrading to an electric bike at some point as she gets heavier!

Wow, that sounds like a great bike. Will check it out, as the extra power would be great for getting up Northern hills.

Oooo this looks fun, it’s the sort of bike I could get behind. I’ve always been rubbish at cycling because I work as hard as can and I still seem to go at snails pace. Maybe an electronic bike could work for me.
