Day 22 – 30 Day Music Challenge

By | July 26, 2017

Today’s prompt is:
“A Song That Motivates You”.

My choice is a song that D and I love to sing along to, it also motivates me and can make me quite angry at the same time.

Everything Counts reminds me that we are all budget figures on a spreadsheet, impersonal numbers that don’t take into account individuality or specific needs.   Something that SN parents will be very familiar with when it comes to dealing with any aspect of seeking guidance.

For example, when we had to appeal to a panel for T’s secondary school place, I made a point of showing the panel a picture of T at the beginning of our slot to remind them that this was about a boy and not just an amount on a spreadsheet.

To D, the song is great as it features the xylophone which she really enjoys playing in Xylophone club at school.   Everything does count for her.

And those lyrics?  The line “confidence taken in…” reminds me very much of a certain President.

“The handshake seals the contract from the contract

There’s no turning back

The turning point of a career in Korea, being insincere

The holiday was fun packed

The contract still intact

The grabbing hands

Grab all they can

All for themselves after all

The grabbing hands

Grab all they can

All for themselves after all

It’s a competitive world

Everything counts in large amounts

The graph on the wall

Tells the story of it all

Picture it now

See just how the lies and deceit

Gained a little more power

Confidence taken in by a sun tan and a grin

The grabbing hands

Grab all they can

All for themselves after all

The grabbing hands

Grab all they can

All for themselves after all

It’s a competitive world

Everything counts in large amounts

Everything counts…”
