Rain didn’t stop Sports Day
By Jeannette | June 28, 2017
Ooh yesterday, was fun! Sports Days always are at D’s SN school.
There are events that make you laugh – like the parents v teachers tug of war (the parents won, yay!) – and events that make you humbled – the “slow walking” race for those pupils who are out of their wheelchairs and aided by TAs. Everyone very deserving of the clapping and cheers as they near the finish line. Wonderful.
Sports Day is literally that at D’s school too with individual events in the morning – javelin, long jump, archery – and inter-house races in the afternoon. My #scarfeet ached like nobodies business afterwards (and all last night) but it was so worth the pain.
So, how did our D get on?
In a word, fantastically!
She joined in with all the morning events and was signed up for “long sprint”, “obstacle relay” (which featured 52 children!) and the “300m relay”.
She came 4th in the “long sprint” and her team came 2nd in the relay.
And then, very suddenly, she was asked to run in another relay!
D’s autism means that unexpected unplanned events can take her by surprise and, especially as her name wasn’t down for the race, she wasn’t anticipating that but off she went and ….
Her team finished in 1st place, in the last race of the day and just as the rain was starting.
She wore her medals and sticker home with pride, we’re mega proud of her too.
Such a wonderful annual event and we are so grateful that she’s in the right educational setting for her and can access and enjoy these experiences.

Well done on winning the relay! These experiences are the best, I remember a few of my sports days being cancelled because of the weather.
Glad it didn’t ruin her day x
