Singing – Tues 8th Nov 2016 

This was the back cover of a concert we went to on Sunday, a very special concert.

The image above gives a bit of background, it was a chance for students from D’s school to sing with pupils from both a mainstream primary and secondary, an opportunity for some inclusion to be generated and, as each pupil had a mainstream “Buddy” friendships to be made.

And it was wonderful!  Our D had been practising the songs at after-school sessions and during lunchtimes etc, the actual concert day meant that she’d be doing final rehearsals in a secondary school venue and having a packed tea beforehand – all a definite change to a usual Sunday.

I must admit, I felt a little bit wary when I saw the song list and wondered how “Black Magic” and “Shake It Off” would be portrayed through sign language but it was all brilliant  – with any “fruity” bits omitted! 

And there’s our D in a very heavily cropped photo for obvious privacy reasons.

It was fantastic, every pupil on that stage had obviously been gently coached and encouraged and the smiles said it all, they were all very happy to be up on that stage, in front of a room full of people.  

A couple of songs made me shed a little proud tear – “The One And Only” and “Perfect Day” – both very special when sang by very individual children.

The only downside was that – still being in post-op recovery – I spent the following night in absolute agony as my feet told me in so uncertain terms that I’d done too much.  They do not like being flat on the floor or being walked on.  

Worth it though.  Definitely.
