A definite achievement – Tues 15th Nov 2016
By Jeannette | November 15, 2016
You know, one achievement might just be my writing this as – spoiler for tomorrow maybe – my op recovery isn’t going as smoothly as I would have hoped.
But enough about me, apart from to say that it’s wonderful when you find something unexpected in a school bag.
Yes, it’s crumpled and yes, that is a crochet hook obscuring the name but its pride-inducing nonetheless.
D’s autism and anxieties mean that she finds it extremely hard to join in new activities, we’ll prepare her/school will prepare her and sometimes she’ll be willing, often she’ll attend and build up a shedload of emotions, which overspill once she’s home (last week, which I didn’t blog was a prime example for us).
Theatre Club – something we knew our little songbird would enjoy – anxieties permitting – something she tried last year and wanted so much to join, tried once and got overwhelmed.
Something she’s trying out this term, exactly a year later and loving it! At her own pace, as it’s always been with D.
I’d mentioned to her that maybe attending the club might mean that she hears about upcoming musical events first, something else she’d love to be involved in more, but lacks the confidence to put her hand up for.
I like the fact the certificate is extremely visual, that it’s a very smiler emoticon and that the theatre club organisers have recognised it IS a big challenge for D to attend and that she needs that little bit more encouragement.
D’s best bit is that all the students and teachers do the conga at the end, a great way to relieve tensions and ensure people go home happy, (my) feet permitting we’ll do that at home too!
