This week’s #WOTW and #R2BC – Fri 1st July 2016
By Jeannette | July 1, 2016
This year has whizzed by and it’s hard to believe that T and D have just two weeks left of summer term, I’m mega relieved that their schools both finish on the same day as some in the Borough are not finishing until the following Wednesday, now that would have caused problems!
One of the highlights of the summer term at D’s school is Proms week, a week of musical performances by every class and the various musical groups, it’s something I always look forward to and with all the Brexit fallout, my operation disappointment and a recurring leg infection rearing it’s vicious head, it’s been a fantastic (week long) distraction. No surprise that my word to sum up this week is Prom.
This week saw D’s class perform the Imperial March from Star Wars on Monday with them all dressed in masks. D was on the keyboard:
We had a fool-around with them afterwards too:
Tuesday saw no performances by D but she watched other classes.
On Wednesday, D was in Junior Rhythm Group, drumming:
Yesterday she had two performances, Xylophone Club and a repeat of the line dancing performed at a leisure centre about a month ago.
It was fantastic to see her enjoying the dancing after she had been completely overwhelmed by unfamiliar surroundings and a sports hall full of people, she danced, she smiled, she joined in, it was wonderful.
And today, a Woodwind Concert where she played her flute. She has weekly lessons which we pay for at school and because she compartmentalises, we did wonder if it was worth continuing them.
We had her answer today, it was wonderful! She has grown in confidence and her flute playing sounded very melodic – sometimes timid, understandably – but very tuneful. Fantastic.
It is always very humbling to watch the children performing, knowing just how many issues and anxieties lie behind them being on that stage. The staff are wonderful in gently coaxing and encouraging them.
It’s lovely to sit in a room with fellow SN parents and know that each one appreciates every individual and class performance and there are so many smiles, tears of joy and a sense of immense pride.
A lovely week (apart from my silly leg, antibiotics will sort that) and my one hefty Reason To Be Cheerful too as it’s lasted all week.
How’s yours been?

It’s lovely to see children growing in confidence and music is such a delight to the ears. May she continue to love making music. #WotW

Wow, what talented kids you have. I’d love to watch mine playing music, my son started Keyboard in Jan and I’ve been amazed how much he has picked up in a short time. Mich x
