New experiences – Sat 11th June 2016

By | June 11, 2016

Trying out something new is always good, it’s not so easy with autistic children though as they crave routine.

We threw routine right out of the window today and we’ve emerged at the other side, with some definite good bits and some not so.

This was a good bit.  You can try and play “spot the D”, it won’t be difficult, she was waaaay taller than the other singers.

Because sing she did.  With (I think) three other schools, on a stage, at our local carnival.   They sang science-related songs, ending with Space Oddity, a song she’s been practising a lot.
We hadn’t been to the carnival before today.   I don’t think she’d have previously coped.

We had another reason for going, in my volunteer work, the club had a stall and we were there from the outset, which wasn’t popular at times with D.

She was brill though – when she wasn’t telling me she wasn’t enjoying it – we had a couple of little wanders and she loved seeing the farm animals there and the dogs performing tricks.

It’s been a long day and I know that it took a lot for D to firstly tolerate being in the stall, albeit on a chair with a book and getting up on that stage.

It really helped that she is now 12.  I think we’ll go back next year but perhaps before the floats procession comes in, before it gets mega busy and definitely watch the performing dogs again, they were brill.

Another new experience chalked up.

I’m so glad it went so well for her and you both enjoyed parts of the day. I can’t believe D is 12, how did that happen! x
