Hatched!

By | April 20, 2016

A lovely start to the day today with a sunny walk to school, this is always the best part of our walk:

and then walking into school and seeing a change on the reception screen.

The school has a live webcam in one of the classrooms, linked up to an incubator with eggs inside.

Today, we arrived at just the right time and watched – along with many other pupils and parents – a chick hatching from its shell.  Lovely!

It looked huge as it eventually uncoiled itself, not fluffy yet and with membranes trailing from its body.

D was fascinated to watch as, as it attempted to get its strength, a foot or wing would pop up and then an obviously weary chick would briefly lift its head and then flop back down.

Hopefully the screen will be showing some more egg action later, but what a fab start to the day for D and a bit of an achievement for that chick, I wonder if it realised it was being cheered as it embarked on its new life this morning?

Oh lucky you, brilliant timing! I know our youngest has watched a couple of chicks hatch at school recently and she loved it. Always good to see new life 🙂
