A bit of a yay – Sat 2oth Feb 2016

Feeling proud of both of our children tonight.
T played in a football match this morning, for over half of it and came off practically blue due to the cold wind that sweeps across the field. He’s so much better after the flu that recently floored him, it was a case today of getting his confidence back.
Neither of us are pushy parents but we knew that if he didn’t play soon, the enthusiasm might disappear and football in all its aspects is so important to him.
D surprised us with her mental maths today. We have a little test on the way to school sometimes where I’ll pretend I can’t remember how much something will add up to (eg 15p + 5p) as she responds best to instructions or activities in a jokey type of way.
This evening it was about her chores money (very basic, giving a good back scratch – which she does) and she was paid in 20p pieces.
Here I’ll go a bit “Daily Mail” and remind you what a few 20p coins look like (!):
She stumbled a bit on one addition but managed 90% of the time to count up the coins correctly with prompts.
No big deal, someone might think but, working things out in her head doesn’t come easily to D, she’s very visual and she had the confidence to have a go too.
Well done to them both!

That’s fab. I’m not too great at mental maths myself. Well done! #smallstepsamazingachievements

I’m glad T is feeling better and you gave him the little push he needed to get him back on track with his football. Well done D, my mental maths isn’t great, not helped by always having the phone on hand. I hope she enjoyed counting all of those 20p #SSAmazingAchievements
