Late – Tues 1st Dec 2015

By | December 1, 2015

I was about two minutes late for collecting D today, normally I’m waiting outside for the doors to open, to stand in my usual place where I can see as she comes down, see instantly what sort of day she’s had.  Today I wasn’t.  She wasn’t happy.

Unhappier still that, as I’d rushed from a meeting in Costa, I needed the l o o.  D announcing loudly to her TA and anyone else who might be listening “my mum just needs a wee!”  Oh yes, ground open up and swallow me now.

In D’s eyes, being a couple of minutes late meant less time at home.  It didn’t enter her rationale that we then have to go and wait for five minutes or so for T at his coach stop.  Nope, we were late and it caused distress.  Which caused annoyance on T’s part.  Which made D upset and then the vicious cycle started.  Not even a lift from a going-past Hubbie lightened the mood.  Stomp, stomp, stomp.

And then, after tea, the clouds lifted.  D’s song of the moment came on the music channel – Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero – she sang along warbling and all was well.

She used to have a tshirt saying “music makes me happy” and it’s so true.  For me too.

Glitter, our Elf On The Shelf, reappeared today.  She seems to have mislaid her skirt since last Christmas mysteriously … but here she is, having changed the calendar month too (clever Elf!):
