This week’s #WOTW and #R2BC – 5/11/2015

By | November 5, 2015

Earlier on this week, I would have chosen a very different word to sum up our week.

Take Monday, D was at home with me, overly anxious about the other children at her school, not the majority, just the ones who decide it’s “fun” to tell her she’s “chubby”, “ugly” and has no friends.  The sort of things that chip away at anybody, but factor in the fact that she’s not confident enough to tell them to stop it, then she’s an easy target.

She’d got so anxious about returning to school that she’d been hurting herself, scratching and pulling away at one of her arms until it was sore.  Poor thing.

Action was needed, I sent her back in on Tuesday, having written in the diary exactly why she’d been off and had a word (or two) with the individuals as they came out of school (a bonus for taking and collecting her).

Since then, we have a happier daughter and she seems to no longer be a target.  I’m “mean” according to them, though.  I will take being “mean” any day (and a lot more) if it means that D feels more comfortable at school.

There are going to be times in the future when she’ll have to stand up for herself but she’s been a target for these individuals for years (yes, years) and not just her, others have been targeted too.  Enough was enough.

So, a huge:

(This week’s Word for the Week) that hopefully the situation has been sorted.

I’m also cheering because (the #R2BC bit):

1.  It was T’s birthday yesterday and he’s reached the grand old age of 13.   Unfortunately it was a school day but he enjoyed his presents and seemed to have a good day.

He and D always like birthday cakes from M&S (yes, I could make one but it wouldn’t look as good, not even close, that’s if it rose…) and I choose “Happy Birthday” cubes, we also discovered they spell other words, which made T smile a bit!

They taste rather nice too.

2.  A long overdue pamper

Being an SN parent can be challenging, on all levels.  I wouldn’t change anything (apart from the bureaucracy) about our lovely individual children but, by golly, just day to day can leave you (or me) a bit of a wreck.

These last couple of years have taken their toll emotionally and it was time for a long-overdue pamper.  For me.

No filters.  No pouts.  Just me afterwards.  I love it!  T said I look older (bless him and his honesty) with my new hairdo but I disagree.  Very pleased that I had the time to go, thanks to my lovely Hubbie who collected D from school and then waited for T to get off his coach.

3.  Feeling valued

I’m loving my voluntary comms work too.  It’s good to be appreciated, to have my opinions asked and not to be treated as just a woman, or a housewife.

And, if it’s not raining torrentially, we’re off to the circus tomorrow, an annual show which is extremely SN-friendly and always full of laughter.

All in all, this week will end on a cheery note, how’s yours been?

Poor D – so horrible to be the target of bullying and so glad that you being “mean” seems to have stopped it. Hopefully it will make them think twice about picking on someone else as well. Glad that T had a good birthday – those birthday cubes do look yummy and rearranging them to make other words sounds like it was fun. How lovely that you had some time to pamper yourself too and your haircut looks fab, Hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy going to the circus 🙂

Thanks, it’s always tricky when you’re never sure if the other child knows what they’re saying and if they intend to hurt, but this one did. Very glad it seems to have eased now x

Sounds like you’ve had a really happy, positive week, and for tackling the problems at school head on. Sometimes you just have to wade in because it’s not fair on the children. Glad the birthday went well and you managed to get away, too – I think you look lovely!

Poor D as I read what was happening to her it made my heart ache. It truly saddens me how mean some children can be. I’m so glad that things seem to be sorted now and that D is feeling better about it all. Wishing T a belated happy birthday I hope he had a great day! You look fab too by the way. Xx
