Everything Counts – Mon 14th Sept 2015

By | September 14, 2015

It’s been a contagiously frustrating day here today.  I don’t know whether this is a common occurrence with the move for D over to the secondary area, but communication could definitely be improved.  And that is an understatement!

There’s still no timetable for lessons, she’ll have been back at school two weeks on Wednesday.   A very high proportion of D’s have stilted speech and – chatting to another parent on Friday and at the party on Saturday – they don’t get information in the home-school diaries either, so it’s not just D!

I’ll give it until the end of this week and then speak to someone (other than the teachers), D is extremely reliant on knowing what she’s meant to be doing that day (not mega detail, just a rough idea of subjects) and so, every morning is sending her into a panic because she has no clue of lessons for that day.

I don’t like to moan (lol) this early in term but, for instance, D should be having weekly (paid-for by us) flute lessons …. who knows?

And “Beauty club” didn’t start today, it’s next week! To be fair, there wasn’t a start date on the letter so I assumed it was from today.   So, D was full of anticipation and it was quashed.

In contrast, T has his week 1/week 2 timetable and planner and we’re fine and dandy there.

Can I mention something else too, which leads nicely into a Music Monday?  I know from previous seasons that getting fellow football parents to do anything beyond getting their child to a game on time is hard work, it’s rare that anyone will volunteer help despite the fact that practically anyone involved in youth football is giving up their time for free, they do it because their child wants to play and maybe the parent didn’t have all the opportunities that their child has.

Hubbie and I spent a lot of the summer trying to sort out a player shortfall.   It didn’t work and the team disbanded.   Loyalty didn’t count for much it seemed.

D and I absolutely love the song above, it was also one of the songs I’d attempt to sing along too after my smiley surgery earlier this year.  Consequently it’s played at home and sometimes when we’re waiting for T’s bus, we might sing:

The grabbing hands, grab all they can, all for themselves, after all…it’s a competitive world….everything counts in large amounts

I was listening to that on my earworms as I walked to D’s school.  Those lyrics usually make me smile as I remember us singing them but today, they made me think of loyalty and how it would seem that over five years together as a football team didn’t count for much in the end.

At the end of the day though, T will still be playing football and that is what counts for him.
