Schools Out – Now and Then #Prose4T

By | August 6, 2015

It’s the summer holidays!

For our T, the routine’s gone to pot,

He turns in late and gets up later,

It matters not a jot!

For D, it’s up as usual with the dawn,

Excited squeals as she races in.

We have a cuddle and she chatters away,

Whilst I stifle a big yawn.

I remember my school holidays,

Riding around Sandhurst on my bike.

We’d cycle to the record shop in Yateley,

To see which new LP we’d like.*

There wasn’t much on TV back then*

I remember watching when it rained,

The drops pattering quickly down the window panes,

Followed by bright sunshine and a rainbow was made.

And now it’s all games and gadgets,

Everything in one place, very portable,

If I’d wanted to have music on my bike,

The cassette player would have been uncomfortable.

I love being at home with our children,

To watch them laughing on the trampoline in the sun.

I hope they look back on their childhood when older,

As being full of smiles, cuddles and fun.

(*showing my age a bit!)

How different our school holidays were to now,.Love the LP reference, we used to go to the record shop on a Thursday & take turns choosing a single, even our parents, haha x

They are. For all the gadgets around, I think I prefer it back then 🙂
