Memories – Sun 2nd Aug 2015

I am always amazed at T and D’s memories, they are both incredibly visual and it almost seems as though their brains take a photo and, that’s it, all the details are saved.
It made for a mindset change when it came to D learning to read, she wasn’t able to read phonetically and learnt by memorising the words, with the aid of a Vtech Storio (such a worthwhile purchase!).
It also seems to stem to music, not only the words (or D’s interpretation of the words) but also the pitch, the notes and the time frame in between the words. It’s really quite amazing.
Today, for instance, with the news that Cilla Black had died, the news channels have been playing “Anyone Who Had A Heart” , D picked up the tune and some of the words very quickly and has been singing/humming or whistling the tune ever since.
I can’t wait until she has a practice flute at home, she gets so excited whenever the flute is mentioned and her flute teacher has let me know the books used in school, so that we can ensure she’s following the same lines at home. It will be great and bearing in mind she enjoys it so much, getting her to practice occasionally shouldn’t be an angst-filled activity – unlike her news writing.
It all makes for a quite musical household and, D whistling, humming or singing is a sign that she’s relaxed, which is always good news.

Same here, M is so good at tunes and songs it can be quite unnerving (see my latest blog lol) but when it comes to practising for school it’s useful.
I always wanted to play the flute! I think it sounds lovely.
