A Music Monday – 10th Aug 2015
By Jeannette | August 10, 2015
It’s been a day full of humming and whistling for D, another cuddly one too.
I haven’t posted a Music Monday for ages, so, in the spirit of our tune-filled day, thought I would today.
The song above – One Man In My Heart by The Human League – I don’t remember hearing much of before, I had their “Octopus” CD from which this came but can’t have played this track much. Anyway, I rediscovered it yesterday and it’s been whizzing around in my head today.
The Human League were very much topics of class chats during early secondary school. I remember hearing the story of how the girls were discovered and thinking “wow, if it can happen to them, it can happen to anyone”. I didn’t dance with arms flailing anywhere, no indeedy, not unless we were mucking around and attempting to emulate them.
There was even more to talk about when the music mags of the time intimated that not only were the girls discovered in a bizarre way but also – apparently or should that be allegedly – both had affairs with the lead singer. Oh, the stuff of teenage dreams, eh?
Talking of dreams, when I was 13, I thought I knew everything. I wanted to leave the burbs of Berkshire when I was old enough and head for the bright lights of London, I’d live in Kensington or Chiswick and naturally I’d be a backing singer, or an air hostess. My partner would be the singer and we’d be wonderful, I wrote a poem about a particular song I’d imagine we’d sing.
In reality, I’ve moved around the burbs of Berkshire and I have my “one man in my heart, one man in my bed” and I wouldn’t swap that for anything (apart from the snoring).
Enjoy the song, do any songs take you back to teenage years?
