Proud – Sun 31st May 2015

By | May 31, 2015

I’ve been a football mum today, watching T playing in a football tournament.  Feeling extremely proud of our little (ok, not so little) man, playing in a team, going in for challenges (which he never used to like because it was potential conflict) and coping with a busy, busy environment.

And our D.  She disliked the walk to the tournament because it was as if we were going to school (and just beyond it), there was rain and wind.  She managed by doing this:

Yes, there is a D under there, somewhere!   It was lovely to see T occasionally checking she was ok too.  Really nice.

She put up with pitch changes and people rushing past her, footballs flying around as those who weren’t playing let off steam and the mega change to her Sunday routine.

The weather did get better and D’s smile came out too!

(Weather-beaten hair for me!)

T’s team got to the semi-finals and then “bam” all over.  They were naturally disappointed but had played so well.

Then, instead of immediately going home, I was in the “bun tent”, not cakes as I’d originally thought but selling baps and rolls to be filled by the BBQ tent adjacent.

Another chance as Hubbie took T and D home and I stayed on, for longer than expected which meant a walk home for D without me and her telling Hubbie she “was sad” because I wasn’t here.

All reconciled later.

Today has taught me a few things:

1.  I enjoyed watching T play football, I’d like to do it more often.  He didn’t seem to mind us being there either.

2.  Change is good sometimes.  It’s not often that T and D are at home without me (they had Hubbie) and it’s good practice for BritMums (eeeek!).

3.  I enjoyed my bun tent time.  It got incredibly busy in the afternoon in between all the men’s team games as they all seemed to need their bacon/burger fix at the same time but it was manageable.  I’ll volunteer next year too, as it meant T’s team had free entry to the tournament if a few parents helped.

A very different but good day and a definite Small Steps Amazing Achievement for D.

Sounds like fantastic achievements all round! Great that you got to see T play and were able to help out. Even a big achievement for hubby to be left alone with them.

It sounds like you had a good day and everyone did OK with the change. It must have been nice having sometime to yourself too, even if it was in the bun tent ;0)

Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)
