Sometimes you have to challenge yourself … 14/03/2015

The above is what D told me today, it’s true, isn’t it.
My fear of heights is well-documented in blogs, it’s how I met Hubbie and he always finds it funny that I get a bit “wobbly” even standing on a chair, whilst he scales ladders and all as part of his job.
The children don’t have my heights fear, goodness knows they have enough to worry about, with the sensory issues and anxieties that autism brings.
But anyway, back to today.
D and I went to Thorpe Park as part of their #MyFirstCoaster event, it’s publicising the fact that once a child is tall enough (1.4m), then they are able to go on the mega rollercoaster rides that Thorpe Park has. D is a bit of an adrenalin junkie when it comes to high and fast rides, so off we toddled.
As mentioned above, I’m not. But I went on this:
100 flipping feet up! D was happily beside me saying “look over there, look at such-and-such”, loving it. I honestly couldn’t. It was either focus on my hands holding the harness or have a bit of a wobble. I opted for the former.
Impressive eh? I’m pleased I did it (ish) and although I feel like I left my stomach (not literally) on some of the faster rides, we both had fun.
This was an attempt at a selfie, it didn’t happen. D was too busy bouncing and laughing.
So, I’ve challenged myself today and so has D.
From the busy train environment (hoards of rugby fans) to the packed shuttle bus to the crowds of people at Thorpe Park (there seemed to be quite a few stag and hen groups there) and then the return journey when all she wanted to do was get home, she did very well.
There were a couple of “moments” – D wanted to bolt when the entrance to the platform was locked and we had to go all the way around, then the train was delayed and she rocked (and rocked and rocked) on the bench, moaning and groaning, good old Minecraft helped her once we were on the train.
It’s been a successfully challenging day for both of us. I’m so proud of her.
I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx

I’m so proud of both of you. Lots of sensory issues and a fear of heights in one day. I think you both need a medal! x
