Taking Turns – Sun 1st Feb 2015

By | February 1, 2015

Turn taking (and team play)
can be extremely difficult for both T and D.

There’s so much involved, isn’t there. The anticipation, the control and then sometimes the defeat. It can all get a bit much.

The intellectual variances between our two children as well make for a testing time during games; T getting frustrated that D isn’t reading the numbers from the dice quickly enough, D reacting and lobbing the dice around the room and T then getting annoyed that she’s annoyed, it can be a bit of a vicious cycle.

But it’s worth persevering because the ability to turn take is so important, when you think about it, it’s everywhere – letting someone else through a doorway first, waiting at a checkout, using public transport, it’s all about waiting for your turn.

We managed a few goes on Snakes and Ladders (Gruffalo style) before it was apparent that it really wasn’t going to work today, it’s something that needs to be built upon, not necessarily a “today we are going to take turns” but always aiming for more of a positive spin and “let’s have some fun”.

Which is a good target too, fun whilst learning.

I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx
