Don’t Run Away – Weds 26th Nov 2014

By | November 26, 2014

These were D’s words of advice to me this morning, when I told her that I’d be having a few blood tests today.

D has to have monthly injections and has had blood tests in the past, some more successful than others. We always chat beforehand and she’ll nod and (seem to) agree that it’s better if she remains calm and then it’s over quicker but, inevitably, we’ll get in the room, anxieties get the better of D and it’s anything but calm.

One particular memorable (and quite horrible) injection experience ended up with the nurse chasing D around the room with a needle in her hand. It was to that that D was referring today:

“Don’t run away like I did, because you’ll make the nurse cross”…lots of reassurance given to D that, nope, I wouldn’t run away, I’d “be good and sit still”. She must have had some wonderful imagery going on in her head to say that!

And it was a happy D who I met at the end of the day. Because I always have the task of ripping (as gently as I can) her gauze tape away after injections, I’d said I’d save mine for her to do, she quite enjoyed being “Nurse D” and (really quite gently) ripped it off.

She’d had a day of more singing practice and is always singing whilst we wait for T.

He’d had a good one too. Having made some pinwheels in Food Tech:
“Had he tried them?”
“Did he like them?”
“Yes, sort of.”
“Did he want a couple in his lunchbox tomorrow?”
A resounding “No”
And that was that! They were nice though.

I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx

Oh bless her heart! And yet they continue to say that autistic people have no empathy – I can’t imagine a clearer case than that!
I’m very pleased to hear you were a good girl Jeannette 😉

Indeed, my girl is a little tonic at times and it made for quite a funny chat as we walked along too.
Thank you for being you this week xx
