Contrast – Fri 28th Nov 2014

Today has been a day of two halves, of two very different school runs and pre/after school time.

Poor D.

This morning was lovely, we walked along hand in hand (yes, there were probably birds singing!), we sang as we often do, practising her songs for the Christmas concert. She was a happy girl, happy that it was Friday and that today not only meant more song practice but also choir too. Ideal for my little songbird.

Unfortunately it didn’t pan out like that. A very pale and timid D met me in Reception this afternoon. She instantly (unusually for D) told me whilst she was still next to her teacher that she hadn’t enjoyed choir, it had been too noisy, it sounds like there had been a lot of excited participants. The other thing she wanted to tell me separately.

Just as well she did, because she got upset and it was probably the main reason for her anxiety.

She has a sheet to practice at home for their class concert, it has who’s singing what and when, D being a very visual little thing she likes that. Today it’s all changed. She’s sung different bits and so on. She’s now very confused as to what she’s doing, because although it all changed today, she still has the original practice sheet. There wasn’t an update sent home.

Now if D had had the confidence to say at the time or to say in front of staff at the end of the day, it would have been sorted. But she didn’t want to (and wouldn’t) go back into school (routine being we go and wait for T) so, we have to wait until Monday.

Two days is a long time in D’s eyes to wait for clarification over something she was so sure about and really looking forward to. She does have one of her classmate’s birthday party to look forward to though – phew!

I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx
