The Shoe Shop trip #SSAmazingAchievements

By | September 3, 2014

Going for new shoes for either T or D would always fill me with dread. If the shop was too busy or too noisy, then their flight instincts would take over and getting a fitting for new shoes was definitely a challenge.

There is only a Clarks in our village, which obviously gets extremely busy in the run-up to a new term, weekends are generally a no-no too.

We’d previously had D’s feet measured during a quiet time (size 5f and she’s 10!) so knew her size, it was a case of ordering in from (tbh) quite a limited selection. We are lucky that she can wear trainers to her SN school but, as her feet grew bigger, there came the issue of laces, something that she is unable to master.

Fortunately we found (a choice of) one Velcro pair and ordered them in, together with plimsolls for PE so that her trainers last a bit longer.

With T having started at secondary school today (and most primary schools having gone back), we went to have a fitting today.

The children’s section was busy so D chose to wait in the (quieter) adult section, playing on Minecraft whilst she waited.

She co-operated with the sales lady (still playing Minecraft) and followed instructions.

The sales assistant remembered D from previous shoe “experiences” and remarked just how far she’d come (and how much she’s grown, in height and foot size).

A successful trip, okay we left it until it was quieter and we didn’t sit in the children’s section but we got the end result and that is an achievement!

Well done D. Thats fantastic! and such a relief for you.
I dreaded taking Bruiser shoe shopping his. We chose a rainy bank holiday monday at an outside outlet in the hope it would be quieter. He refused to have his feet measured, AGAIN! but this time for the first time at this particular clarks shop they were using an ipad to measure, when he realised they had his full attention. they even let him play with it while they checked the fitting of the shoes.

Thanks, it did make it so much easier that she was relaxed and knew what was happening. Those iPad measuring things are great, aren’t they 🙂

That’s fantastic clarks is a complete nightmare. We took Ethan the other week and they measured his feet with an iPad which he loved but didn’t like giving it back. Also I brought a clarks foot measure for home as they sell them now. I’m so glad it went so smoothly for you and you got everything you needed.

Thanks, we used to dread shoe shop trips (and still do if it’s busy) 🙂
