Taking a little time #WellbeingWednesday

Mixed emotions with this Mumma today.

My little man has gone off for his first day at secondary school. Emotions that combine feelings of “where the heck have the last six years gone?”, “I hope he’ll be okay and mask any negative emotions he’s feeling” and “thank goodness we fought the appeal process and got him in there (only one of six extra places allocated)”.

For any parent, a child starting school or nursery is daunting, but when your child is SN and without a statement, it feels even more daunting. We had tremendous issues with primary school who refused to see beyond the very clever exterior for T and recognise that he struggled with social skills, with empathy and with a change in routine. Anyway…

Looking after me has naturally taken a downturn during the summer holidays but I have managed to snatch five minutes on a (very) few occasions for this:

I’m only on chapter 6 at the moment but its a really enjoyable book (bought by me, not a freebie) I can see a similar plot line to the film Frequency (in terms of the chance to link with the past and maybe make changes) and hopefully once the children are both back at school, I’ll get a chance to read a bit more.

And it might just take my mind of the thoughts racing around my head too.

I remember being really nervous for Aiden when he first started secondary school. Luckily he’s been fine and is now starting year 10 but I still get nervous each school year! I’ll be the same with Kaycee because she doesn’t handle change well but Ella started juniors today and while all the other mothers were taking their children to the classroom door, Ella was kissing me at the gate and running in on her own!
I must say, as much as I love the holidays, it’s really nice to have some time to myself today to catch up on blogging and everything else that has been neglected this past 6 weeks!

I so agree, loved the holidays but it’s so nice to have time to think!
