First day done! Weds 3rd Sept 2014

By | September 3, 2014

Well, he’s done it. Our T, has had his first day at secondary school.

A day not without last minute changes, thanks to an email from school yesterday afternoon, can you believe? There were mutters that this could have been communicated before the end of the summer term or in a letter, but anyway..

It was an anxious T this morning, masking his feelings until he had to reply to anything and then his very short, very sharp responses gave an indication of what was bubbling under.

Off he went, refusing a cuddle and that was it until much later, when D and I waited at the bus stop.

And there he was, getting off the coach, still looking smart in his shirt and tie which he absolutely could not wait to undo.

A slight cloud over his first day, despite the high temperatures, all pupils are expected to wear a jumper to school, to registration and then it can be removed. He hadn’t. I think it would make for a shed load of jumpers in lost property but there you go. He’ll be wearing a jumper tomorrow, a risk of detention if he doesn’t.

That aside, T has his planner, kind of knows his way around and seemed a lot happier this afternoon.

I asked him if we made the right choice for him with the school (we fought so blooming hard to get him into), his answer was “yes”. You can’t ask for more, can you?

All this talk of secondary school has got D asking if she’ll be moving schools when the time comes. A definite no.

And her worrying that she’d have to walk on her own, when she’s in the secondary part of her SN school.
Again, no. I can’t imagine that, she’d either be frozen with fear at someone walking behind her, or want to bolt somewhere, anywhere. Lots of reassurance that I’ll be there.

So, this day which seemed so far away when we had to put down school choices last October is finally here and (jumper issue aside) it’s gone far better than I anticipated. Now there’s the challenge of implementing this earlier (much earlier) start every morning and keeping this enthusiasm going.

I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx

Below is a Bunny picture, D asked me to include because its cute. Bunny and D return to school tomorrow.
