Today and this week’s #R2BC

By | June 26, 2014

Sometimes it makes sense to combine a post, or two. Today is one such day for reasons that will become clear..

So, what’s been making me cheerful this week?

1. The BiBs

It was lovely seeing my blog name up on the big screen as a finalist in the Health category.

I regretted only going only for the awards ceremony as the journeys in and out of London were really yuck but it was fab to put faces to bloggers, even if I did feel like I was gazing at people’s lanyards to find their names, before faces.

2. Induction Day

T had his induction day at secondary school yesterday and seemed so comfortable afterwards. Further proof to us that we were justified in putting us all through that appeal process. We are still very grateful that T will now be going to a fantastic setting.

3. Bamboo

Bamboo? I never thought I’d be including that as a reason, ever!

We don’t have the nicest of neighbours, the kind who would play loud music all day long and then karaoke until the small hours, loudly, without a thought for anyone trying to sleep on the other side of the thin walls but then tell T and D to shut up and gesticulate from their windows if they were playing in our garden.

So, I’ve made buddleia and something I-can-never-remember-the-name-of grow up around the trampoline but the area behind our frame pool was still overlooked. Hopefully my (at the moment) little bamboo plants will shoot up and provide a bit more coverage.

4. Cuddles

D has been at her SN school for five years now but before that she was in a mainstream environment. Her 1:1 TA was lovely but ultimately D couldn’t tolerate the class size or noises and she has flourished in a smaller class/higher staff ratio.

We sometimes see her mainstream TA to wave at but today we met her on the way to school. D was overjoyed to see her and there were hugs and smiles from all sides. She (TA) knew D as a frightened angst-ridden little girl so to see her (D) walking beside me, happily, made her very happy.

We told her about D’s sports day last week and, as she only knew D as a child who was too full of fear to participate in mainstream sports, she was amazed to hear all about it.

It’s so nice that, whilst D will tell me occasionally how frightening she found mainstream, she will greet her ex TA with so much enthusiasm, which is returned too.

5. An awww moment

D does like to wear her finery, usually little plastic bangles and occasionally a Lola Rose necklace that she seems to have claimed from me. Today we left the house without her having put her bangles on. Sulks and strops at first until I suggested she borrow mine for the day, as long as she was careful. She loved that suggestion!

She rushed at me this afternoon and said that whenever she’d felt a bit sad, she looked at my bracelet and it made her feel better because it reminded her of me. Awww! Mind you, if that is an attempt to “claim” another bit of my (diminishing) jewellery, it isn’t going to work! Very cute though.

I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx

The Aww moment made me go Aww too, so sweet.
Really nice that D’s TA gets to see her doing so well.
Glad T’s induction went well, won’t be long now 🙂
Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks Nikki, hope you have a good one too. D’s awww moments are totally lovely, we are so lucky that she is so demonstrative although body slams at 5am are not quite so welcome!
