Handwriting – Thurs 1st May 2014
By Jeannette | May 1, 2014
I am incredibly proud of D this evening and I wanted to share why.
Regular readers of my posts will know that, although she is an absolute whizz with crafting, also anything that involves hand-to-eye co-ordination and her ipad, she finds handwriting extremely challenging.
I have always felt that D may have dyspraxia, she displays (I feel) many of the symptoms but we have a school OT who refuses to consider it. For this reason, I don’t “push” handwriting at home and any notes/cards she produces are a fantastic surprise and a bonus.
They have DIY writing lessons at school, where words are put on to a board relating to a recent lesson or something the children have done that day and the task is to formulate and write down sentences in their books.
Yesterday was a busy day for D with some inter-house football and their DIY writing focused on that event.
This is an example of D’s handwriting 6 months ago:
And this is yesterday’s, she normally writes one or two sentences but totally excelled it here. Punctuation and all!
According to her TA, she is very close to moving up to the next writing level, which is amazing.
Now it just needs to stop raining…
Little plug:
I’m shortlisted in the Health category of the Brilliance in Blogging awards and would really appreciate a vote. Click here to be taken to the voting site, Health is Category 15. I’m really pleased to be included and would love to go further.
I’m linking this post up for @EthansEscapades #SSAmazingAchivements, @oliversmadhouse Magic Moments and @The_Doves for #WhatsTheStory.
Thanks for reading Jx

wowee – that handwriting improvement is amazing! We had similar battles with J – so much so that we stopped working on handwriting during homeschool altogether. Since he went back to school, he suddenly managed to start writing cursive which he’s never managed to do before! We find OT excercises really help when it comes to handwriting too. Very well done to D xxx

What an achievement! She has neater writing than all of my colleagues at work (and better punctuation!). Huge congratulations on the much deserved BiB nomination, too. Here’s hoping you go all the way.

Thanks Iona, her writing was the one thing that the OT said they “couldn’t take any further” so, for her to achieve this is absolutely fab 🙂
