Boilers, Blues and Birthdays! #R2BC

By | May 29, 2014

This half term week is flying by, an indicator that the school summer holidays will be with us very soon. It’s a shame the weather hasn’t caught up with the fact that we’re nearly in June though.

Here’s what’s been making us cheerful this week:

1. A Birthday Party
D held her party last Saturday and it went really well. The majority of the attendees were SN and there were no upsets or incidents which was brill. There were 3 of D’s “boyfriends” there and there was a moment when they were all getting ready to go to the party room for the food when one boy said to the party person: “she’s my girlfriend” (meaning D), another boy retorted with “no, she’s MY girlfriend” and it went back and forth for a while, but all very good-natured. There were a considerable amount of kisses in their birthday cards, all very cute and innocent.

The picture above is D in the Glow In The Dark party room. She was a very happy birthday girl.

2. The Boiler (not me!)
After last week’s dreadful customer service during our Boiler service, it’s now all sorted. It took a few phone calls as the servicing firm had told our insurance company that all was signed off and fine (?), once we alerted the insurance company to the warning notices and part needed, they got very quickly on the case and told them off arranged for the dodgy part to be replaced. And the “non EU compliant” meter is perfectly fine too. Phew!

3. Pesky coughs etc
You know when these adverts come on and it says “…if you’ve had a cough for more than three weeks and it’s not going…it might not be serious but get it checked out..”

I was getting to that stage, a silly, pesky dry cough that wasn’t doing anything. It made me wonder if it was something more serious and I’d decided to go to the doctors after half term.

I never go “just” for me, it’s always impossible to get an appointment, they only take bookings on the day and who has time to spend three hours on redial with no success?

Anyway, the afore-mentioned pesky cough has turned into a full-blown cold and I’m relieved! Relieved that it was just a cough and for it’s timing. I don’t want to be a cold-ridden wreck during T’s school place appeal meeting a week on Monday, hopefully it will be long gone by then. Also, it’s half term so no rainy school runs, yay!!

4. Subliminal dressing…
With the appeal meeting looming, I wanted something that I’d feel comfortable and smart in. Unfortunately during one of my many decluttering sessions, I’d charity-shopped all my office wear.

I’ve brought a really lovely maxi dress from Phase Eight in a peacock blue colour with an embellished neckline. It’s (and this is where the subliminal bit comes in) the same blue as the school we’re appealing to’s colour and …maybe, it will send positive messages indirectly.

5. Wedding Anniversary
It’s ours tomorrow, 12 years married and 14 (blimey!) years together as we got married in Jersey on our second anniversary. Gosh, there’s been a lot happened over the last few years and it has been a tad stressful at times but we still know exactly what makes the other laugh, it can be a single word or phrase sometimes. (No, Hubbie, you’re not finding out in advance what I’ve bought!)

That’s me, coughing away but happy, have a read of the other posts linked up here with Becky and maybe add in some Jx

Sweetie! You amaze me constantly. You have arranged a birthday party with a persistent cough and a school appeal hanging over your head! I love the idea of the subliminal dressing, hope it works!! xx
