Wheeeeeeee! Sat 29th March 2014
By Jeannette | March 29, 2014
I couldn’t think of a title for tonight’s diary post but, after looking again at this picture, it was easy.
Wheeeeee! is a definitely a word that sums up our day.
We’ve spent most of it at the soft play centre where D is having her birthday party. I want her to get used to the noises and general atmosphere of children rushing past her. Children who aren’t going to know that she has autism or would be there for a birthday party, children who are there to enjoy themselves, run around a lot and want to get somewhere quickly.
She did very well on the whole. D chose where we were base-ing ourselves and I always made sure I was where she could see me. She’d go off for a play, come back for a cuddle and a little go on her ipad, have some water and then be off again. Very proud of her.
Again, any (minor) situations were dealt with immediately and because she wasn’t bottling anything up, she was a happy girl.
Bunny was always around too.
Part of me thinks “okay, there’s ten Saturdays or so until her party, she’s used to it now. She’ll be okay” but I know that the more we’re there on busy times and the more she recognises the staff, the happier and more comfortable she’ll be at her party.
We’ll still enjoy the (much) quieter SN sessions there though, they are fantastic!
This Is Autism:
I’m opening the blog out to people to get their stories/experiences across in April, Autism Awareness Month.
I’d like to devote part of my diary post each evening to a different parent/carer/individual’s experiences.
It doesn’t have to be a full blown post, it could be:
What they enjoy doing ie. their favourite toy or pastime, or
How they find school, or
Where their favourite place is, or
How you felt on receiving (or not) a diagnosis, or
A rant about anything that could be better, or
Hopes/fears for the future, or
Anything about life under the vast spectrum.
Pictures would be great with anonymity preserved, with age and initial.
If anyone is interested in joining in with this daily feature, please let me know either by leaving a comment or tweeting me.
Any stories (long or short) and pictures can be emailed to me (address on request) and I’ll let you know when it will be included.
Hope everyone’s day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx
