TGIF – Thurs/Fri 16/17th Jan 2014

By | January 17, 2014

Yesterday was a long day, both T and D having after school sports clubs, which finished at the same time (aargh!).

This was the highlight of D’s day yesterday, seeing a quite lovely rainbow on the way to school. She wanted to follow it to the end and hopefully find a crock of gold, bless her!

Today had the potential to go very well, Both T and D were relieved it was Friday and D was especially excited about a leaving party for one of the teachers (the first teacher that taught her at her SN school).

It was all going swimmingly on the morning school run until T said something, D dropped her ipad on the ground (thank goodness for its touch cover) and bolted out in the road with no thought for her safety.

We have a routine for road safety and I am always emphasising safety to D so this aspect concerned me: the fact that when she is agitated or anxious, any thoughts for her safety are completely discounted. Like every parent of a SN child, I hope that she will grow to achieve some independence, the issue of road safety is therefore a concern.

The cause of her agitation today – T – is something that I have tried to explain to him. He is prone to saying exactly what he thinks about his sister – the very honest, literal aspect of his autism – and this upsets her. He is also prone to using sarcasm as a form of humour (to him) and no matter how many times I explain that D doesn’t “get it” or appreciate it, it continues. And before I know it, we have a “situation”.

I know that part of this is due to the fact that T hasn’t had a football match for some weeks, due to the weather. Tomorrow is no different, his game has again been called off, but there is the prospect of training.

So, that is how we roll. A definite TGIF. I hope everyone’s day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx
