Stickers a-plenty! Weds 29th Jan 2014

By | January 29, 2014

Today is “Hump Day”, when we get past mid-week and look forward to the weekend.

It hasn’t been a “humph” or a “huff” day but a great one for D.

We have this little game that we play on the school run after dropping off T and before we pick him up, it sounds silly but it’s “Guess What The Traffic Light Is Saying And How”. It’s been getting us through some chilly, wet and windy journeys today.

We seem to have decided that if a traffic light could speak, it would have a Hyacinth Bucket voice (Keeping Up Appearances) and it would be requesting the cars to slow down correctly and properly, whilst insisting that the pedestrians wait for the green man. D has laughed away at my slightly silly impressions of that today.

It’s passed the time whilst all around us cars were parking where they shouldn’t be outside the mainstream school we pass, other car drivers getting annoyed and honking and plenty of fingers being flipped. All very ill-tempered, all fantastic examples to set to the children coming out of school (not).

D had a great day at school, her Tshirt was absolutely covered with motivational stickers as she’d done really well in Phonics:

This is something I’m extremely pleased about as she’d always refused to learn to read phonetically, relying instead on memorising the words and she wouldn’t sound out unfamiliar words phonetically at all. This used to cause issues until staff accepted that that was how she learnt and since then she’s really professed. It shows her increased confidence with willingness to attempt these words and, successfully judging by the stickers.

She remained very positive, right up until settling down, which was absolutely lovely.

T’s been totally miffed with the weather – roll on Spring – but his day has gone well too. It hasn’t stopped the little asides which have the potential to provoke a reaction in his sister but they’ve mostly washed over her.

Tomorrow will probably be completely different, they both have a long day tomorrow with after school club, but today has been a good one!

I hope everyone’s day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx

What a great idea to keep D going on the way home!
This weather leaves a lot to be desired, doesn’t it? We’re sick of being stuck in… it’s been pouring down so much lately. I can hardly wait till spring and the nicer weather, sitting out in the garden, playing with the kids and dogs. Instead of having to try to wrangle a muddy puppy and a sopping wet yorkie who either have to be forced out to go do their business (the yorkie), or have to be bribed to get in the house after digging up the damn garden and trailing paw prints everywhere (the puppy)!
*and breathe* 😉

Goodness me, yes, roll on Spring!! We have two cats and they are very generous with their muddy footprints, I’d love a boxer dog but not her. The traffic light was “vocal” again this morning and D went in laughing – great stuff 🙂
