Pairs – Mon 6th Jan 2014

By | January 6, 2014

Sometimes the greatest amusement comes from something you’d least expect. Or, in our case anyway.

Whenever we head into town and if it’s not too busy, we’ll have lunch (or T and D will) in Burger King. There’s a little branch tucked away from the main shopping area and it’s more-or-less guaranteed that we’ll get a booth. Far more bolt-proof.

Because this BK is never busy, the children’s meal toys aren’t as advertised, they’re always a bit behind and sometimes the toys are downright ropey and we’ll take them home for recycling.

Last week was different. T’s toy was a little bat and ball, D’s was a pack of pair cards.

The cards were quite good, little pairs of coloured crowns on laminated card. We like laminating here, I’ll quite often laminate pictures/top trumps cards as it makes them nibble/tear/bite/throwing proof.

Today, whilst T was at his friend’s house, D and I played them.

She really engaged with them at first, getting a little bit miffed when the pairs were not immediately to hand, but persevered and eventually lost by a respectable 4-6.

It was a success though and the cards have been placed firmly in her bag of small bits and pieces which she carries around everywhere.

The back-to-school anxieties have started to manifest this afternoon, as well as D’s continued annoyance that she returns to school a day before T.

T’s had a good day, he was anxious when he was picked up a few minutes late this morning, but went off comfortably. I think it helped take T’s mind off his concerns about returning to school and the secondary school decision that we are awaiting.

It was also a welcome return to football training this evening for T, he’s really missed his football and the bad weather has meant that he’s been unable to get outside for a bounce with a football on the trampoline (one of his calming mechanisms).

Crossing fingers that I’ll be blogging a positive return to school for D tomorrow, she has definitely missed the routine.

I hope everyone’s day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx

I do hope the back to school run goes well for D tomorrow. M was fine this morning when we got there but all hell broke loose again this evening. You’d think they were torturing her. I know for a fact she has the nicest kindest staff in the area, probably in Scotland.

Bless him, would T cope with outdoor bouncing if you could get him a thick snowsuit? I know they’re expensive but sometimes TK Maxx do them at a great price, and you could maybe get a generous size? Or would the thought of the wet weather dissuade him?

Thanks Karen, hopefully M will settle back into the school routine quickly.
I’ll look into a snowsuit, thanks, I think you’re right, the wind might put him off but it might help with his calming mechanisms x
