The kindness of a stranger #MagicMoments
By Jeannette | December 9, 2013
My Magic Moment this week comes courtesy of a lovely stranger who I’m not likely to meet again, someone who went out of his way (literally) to make D’s Christmas (although she doesn’t know it yet).
There’s a new pop-up shop opened in town that sells the softest, most cuddly toys ever, Craftholic. I’d previously bought a small rabbit for D but went past one day and saw a much bigger version.
(Picture at end of post)
They are huge and for a girl who a) likes bunnies and b) gets a sensory comfort from soft toys, it seemed ideal.
I emailed with the company and pay-paled a deposit, with the balance due to be paid the next week. Btw, I’m not saying which one I’ve chosen, just in case her or T see the picture, highly unlikely but…
Anyway, as D was off poorly last week, it seemed an ideal time to make sure I was around to receive a big box, my only stipulation was not delivery on Friday as we’d be with D at the hospital.
I was told it would be delivered on Thursday, it wasn’t and, as the lady at the company knew we wouldn’t be around Friday, she rearranged for Saturday. All well and good.
We came back from the hospital shattered on Friday, poor D had had bloods taken with numbing cream and an injection without, which had shocked her both in the pain and the implementation. She wasn’t in the best of moods and it felt like we were on an emotional tightrope.
A voicemail came through, with a number I didn’t recognise and my day took a strange turn.
A man on the other side of town had my parcel. He’d been expecting a small package and came home to find a huge box on his doorstep, unlabelled with the bunny inside! There was nothing to indicate who it was for and the courier company had no ideas. This lovely stranger took the time to track down and phone the company via one name on the box, no phone number, just a name and they said it was for me. He then phoned me and offered to drop it round on Saturday.
I couldn’t believe how inefficient and shambolic a delivery company could be, not only delivering to the wrong address but just leaving it on a doorstep. At the same time, how honest and kind the inadvertent recipient was. How many other people would have taken the time to do that?
On Saturday morning, this kind person dropped a huge box off and inside was the bunny. Safely put away for Christmas and out of sight of D. She made good use of the box on Saturday and I hope she’ll love what was inside it just as much!
I am still bowled over that D’s gift arrived safely, against all the odds, thanks to an extremely kind and thoughtful stranger. Truly a Magic Moment and one that made an extremely tough week better.

Awww, I’m so happy for you and D. This man was so kind.
Sucks that the delivery company got the bunny to the wrong address
but so glad it was delivered to you.

Thanks, me too! He didn’t have to do all that he did, but I’m very glad he did 🙂

How lovely is that! It’s heart warming when things like
that happen isn’t it, sometimes it’s just the thing we need at just
the moment we need it to restore our faith in the good of (most of)
humankind 🙂 The rabbits look great, so lovely and cuddly. I hope
it makes D’s day at Christmas. Stopping by from

What a really really thoughtful person that was to use their own time to deliver the box. I am so so pleased she will not be a present down this year.
thank you for linking up with #MagicMoments x

Thanks lovely, it was an amazing act of kindness. The couriers are still refusing to acknowledge it happened. I can’t wait to see D’s face when she meets Big Bunny!! X

Thank you, he definitely was. He must have spent ages on the phone trying to find out where the box was destined for, and then to deliver it too 🙂
