It doesn’t happen often… Sun 29th Dec 2013

As the title would suggest, we had a rare event today…

Sensory issues mean that we all rarely eat the same meal and I will sometimes end up serving up 3 different ones, Christmas lunch was a roast-type thing for Hubbie and I and something else for T and D. Tonight however, we all ate the same..all of us! That does not happen very often and it was extremely nice.

It was a welcome end to what’s been an up-and-down day; Hubbie has been trawling through his memory bank for suggestions for incorporation into a eulogy and that combined with two children who need to self-regulate in their own ways, it has made for a few “moments”.

T and D are so different in the way they seek cuddles too. D is very much “give me a squeeze, give me a tight squeeze” and then afterwards she’ll squeeze me as tightly as she can! It’s a real rib-crusher at times as she’s a strong little thing. T is more of a “I’ll come over and put my head on your shoulder and then you put your arms around me”, he’ll turn his head from side to side, but never use his arms. I’m just glad they both seek out their cuddles in their own ways.

I know of a few autism parents who have taken their Christmas trees down today and ours will be following suit. It could be perceived as early but, to T and D, Christmas has passed for another year and Glitter (Elf On The Shelf) has flown away. Below was the hiding place that made D laugh the most:
