Do They Know It’s Christmas? #MusicMonday

By | December 2, 2013

From the very first chimes that introduce this song, there isn’t any doubt as to what the song is or why it was made.

A song that was the first in a long line of charity records and a rarity with the lack of ego shown in the video. It was a group of musicians, hastily bundled together to unite with a view to quickly get a charity record out to Feed The World, to save lives.

Some nearly 30 years later, its message is still strong and its singalong chorus is known by children who weren’t even a twinkle in their parents eye when it was released.

The brainchild of a couple of men after a news story highlighting the famine in Ethopia.

They fed the world and they changed the way that people raise money for worthwhile causes.

This is the first in my festive Music Mondays and one that simply says Charity and Christmas to me. Proud to have bought the original vinyl and the video.

Thank you Bob and Midge.
