Sequins and Sparkles #MagicMoments #WhatsTheStory

This was D on Saturday, a happy girl off to a soft play party.

This event would be a challenge in itself as her sensory reactions to noise (and there definitely would be lots of that!) and her dislike of strangers getting too close to her could all combine for not-the-best-time. Fortunately (big sigh of relief), she coped extremely well.

As a girl with heightened sensory issues, she’s never been able to wear the scratchy, sometimes itchy dress-up costumes and she never really wanted to. She’s 9 now and has only just entered a "pinkie girlie phase", which has always made choosing her clothes previously very easy. She just wears what I put out and only recently will express an opinion.

This has also meant that she is way-way-way too big for any of the princess-type dresses that she would currently like to wear. I didn’t really want to go down the bridesmaid dress route, bearing in mind their cost, how little use she’d get out of it and the fact that she will roll about the floor on occasions.

I found this t-shirt type dress with a tutu effect online in Next, similarly the gold sequin boots. They definitely appealed to D with their sparkles and sequins, me too for the comfort they offered and the fact she can wear leggings underneath and it doesn’t look out of place.

Seeing her eyes light up when she saw herself in the mirror was just lovely, she had a great time at the party too. She was the only girl amongst all her boy friends in her SN school there and her party bag was full of pink, shiny bits and pieces, perfect for my sparkly lovely D.
