The Adventures of Banana Man #SSAmazingAchievements
By Jeannette | September 25, 2013
One of the misconceptions about individuals with autism is that they have no imagination. Based on experiences with T and D, I’d suggest that it’s more that imagination is impaired, ie they’re unsure how to process it.
D is very into her reading (as is T) and she produced this comic on Sunday, which delighted and amazed us. It’s totally her own work, she’s done all the pictures and colouring and she asked me to write in what she dictated. She did write a few action words in the pictures.
So, here are…
The Adventures of Banana Man:
Once upon a time there were two scientists:
They put a super hero potion in a tiny banana:
Which caused it to GROW…
..and two eyes appeared:
The scientists were amazed!
The banana became a real hero:
…and had to fight a giant fish monster:
Banana Man punched the monster:
The monster fought back:
Banana Man was furious!
Then he had an idea:
He came back with a giant red cat (note, the cat licking its lips):
The giant cat ate the fish monster and the world was safe again:
Isn’t it great? It’s already been well thumbed and well travelled so I’ll be laminating it all for her.

LOVE this! Attention to detail is great. (And with my school head on there’s a distinct beginning with introduction, middle with a problem and end with solution- ace)
