Phew! Tues 27th Aug 2013

By | August 27, 2013

We lost D for a few minutes this afternoon, but it felt like a lot longer.

She got anxious because Hubbie was bringing his 3-tier ladder into the garden, something she knew was happening but wasn’t prepared for the metallic clanking and the barking of next door’s dog (that barks incessantly if you so much as sneeze).

Realistically I knew she couldn’t have got out of the garden, but we couldn’t see her. Realistically I knew she hadn’t gone in and out again of the house because she hadn’t gone past us, it still didn’t stop the rest of us looking.

Eventually we found her, she’d hidden under an inflatable in the pool, with her mouth under water. T spotted her.

She didn’t answer our frantic calls because she was "scared", it really would have helped if she had but sensory issues overtook her. Big big bear-hugs cuddles prescribed and given. It made me wonder how she is at school if similar occurs, I doubt "fine", which always seems to be the stock phrase whatever happens.

T, bless him, was as worried as the rest of us and despite a few "why didn’t you answer? You should have answered" in a stern big brother voice, he’s been very empathetic with her this pm (far more so than this morning).

My neck has eased a bit today, thankfully and D’s definitely needed those cuddles that have been in shorter supply the last couple of days. It feels easier and then I’ll do something and think "oooh, no, not quite".

A trip to the opticians for D tomorrow, one who specialises in eye tests for SN children, which makes it a bit easier. She had a horrible experience in a high street opticians before, the optician completely lost patience with her for "not co-operating" and refused to take into account her genuine anxieties. So glad we have someone who understands autism to go too, apparently he has a child on the spectrum.

T’s done very well today, considering it’s Tuesday and his weekly football magazine is delayed due to the bank holiday. There’ll be muttering and agitations if it doesn’t pop through the letterbox tomorrow though.

So, a mixed bag of emotions today. I hope everyone’s had a good day, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx 😘

There’s always that moment when you wonder if perhaps they did run past you isn’t there? So very scary for you, poor D must have got herself in a state. M can’t speak either when she’s upset – she totally loses the power of speech.

Very glad it was all OK but ((((hugs)))) for the fright.
