They Do It Anyway #TheMMLinky

Oh gosh, look at that image, would you do it? I don’t think I could – unless someone pushed me, that is.

I’ve always had a bit of a fear of heights, unlike my husband and my children.

D wanted to go on a pretty majorly high ride at Thorpe Park a while back, one of those where all that keeps you from falling is a little metal bar and there’s nowhere to put your feet – know the one I mean?

So, reluctantly (but not showing it) I went on it with her, we went up, and up and up, until we stopped and I presume the view was fab because D kept telling me I should open my eyes and look, but I couldn’t, because I knew I would freak out and I couldn’t in front of her, just couldn’t.

And that got me thinking today, about my children, how they face so many fears and anxieties each day – whether it’s new challenges, strangers or (a big one for D at the moment), sitting next to someone in class who has previously emotionally bullied her.

They’re so cute there, it’s my favourite picture of our “pack”, both teenagers now and feeling with puberty as well as all the sensory and anxiety issues related to their autism.

D faced up to something yesterday that had always worried her in the past and I’m so proud of her.

T and D know that I will always strive to make sure they get the support in whatever way they need, they wouldn’t expect anything less from me.

I guess I faced up to something by taking that first step (haha) to getting happier and hopefully pain-free feet last year when I made that initial appointment.

And heading off for that op three weeks ago today, maybe I’m not such a scaredy-cat as I think.  Short term pain (and it definitely is) for long term gain.

They are my motivation and inspiration.

Feel the fear and do it anyway. One of my all time favourite books. I know hos frightened you were about this op so we’re so proud of you for facing that and doing it anyway. I think we forget sometimes how many fears our children face daily so it’s good to be reminded. Well done D!!

It’s so hard to push ourselves sometimes, but the feeling when we do… Well done you! #TheMMLinky

You’re so right. I rarely step out of my comfort zone these days yet my boy must do it all the time. He’s amazing just like your kiddos! And no, I probably wouldn’t do that dive!! #TheMMLinky
