Back to School and other buys from The Big Issue

By | September 1, 2017

We’ve all heard of The Big Issue and the sterling work they do to help the homeless, but did you also know that they have an online shop, with the socially-aware themes you’d expect?

We were asked if we’d like to take a look at what they had to offer and, with back to school looming, I chose for us to try out an EB elephant backpack, which has been hand-made from recycled cement bags by villagers in Cambodia, it’s one that will definitely stand out in cloakrooms, don’t you think?

Perfect from animal lovers and, as this backpack is made from recycled cement bags, it is tough!

In addition, “for every one of these wash bags you buy, Elephant Branded give one ergonomically designed school bag or school kit to a child in Cambodia. They support local villagers in Cambodia who make our bags out of locally sourced, recycled materials, giving them the opportunity to learn valuable skills that permit them to have a sustainable, effective way to get out of poverty hand deliver school stationery to a child in Africa or Asia.”

We put the bag to the test and it comfortably holds a book, water bottle and pencil bag, there are also two mesh pockets on either side and two pockets on the front, one zipped and one Velcro, so plenty of storage opportunities.

The bag has adjustable straps and is very comfortable to wear.
In addition to the child’s size backpack, there is also an adult-sized version on the site, as well as many other EB elephant branded items.

I can see this being perfect for weekend days out, school, lunchboxes or even carrying PE kit or swimming gear.

The bag retails at £25, with the adult size costing £45, why not take a look at the whole range from The Big Issue shop here?

What do you think of the bag?

Disclosure: we were sent a child’s backpack for the purpose of this review, my views and words are my own.
