Proms Week Day One

By | July 3, 2017

It’s the first day of Proms Week at D’s school, something I look forward to every year.

I always find it makes me extremely proud of every child who gets up onto that stage and either sings or plays an instrument, gets up in front of a packed hall, filled with pupils, teachers and parents.  It’s wonderful.

I wrote about D’s first Proms performance here and I honestly didn’t know whether to smile or cry, it was incredible watching our girl – who’d be too anxious, too overloaded with sensory issues in mainstream to even go in a hall – and not only perform with her class, but enjoy it.

Every year I feel the same, immense pride for all the children, humbled by the performance and so much gratitude that she’s in the most appropriate setting for her and being with such patient music staff who really get the best out of the pupils.

Today’s Proms was opened by D’s class, with a performance of “Three Little Birds”, unusually they didn’t take it in turns to sing but stayed with two singers throughout whilst the rest of the class accompanied on glockenspiels, guitars or an organ.  It was lovely, especially as one of the singers had been non-verbal until a couple of years ago.  Amazing eh?

And after that, were littler ones, visibly extremely excited at being in front of a microphone and loving their time in the spotlight.  Wonderful.

D is in four more performances this week, I can’t wait.  So proud of our girl.

Yep, it’s the “eye roll” picture again, just because it makes me smile at the absolute pickle she can be at times 😍

I’m so glad it went well. These tings can cause so much stress, I’m so glad D enjoyed it x
