Day 17 – 30 Day Music Challenge

By | July 18, 2017

I am loving this challenge, looking through my phone’s playlists, googling the lyrics and then seeing if there’s a video for the track on YouTube.  It’s a lot of fun and a nice distraction from “stuff” ATM.

Today’s prompt is “A Song That Features Your Favourite Artist”, the artist will be no surprise:

And the song, it’s called Lie from their 2012 album, Brilliant.

Want to know why I’ve chosen this song? Well, it has the most fantastic vocals by Midge Ure, when you consider he is now (wowsers) 67 and the lyrics are very very relevant and probably always will be (have a listen here).

Another reason I’ve chosen this song from the album is that I’d never seen the group live, I was too young during the group’s 80’s peek but, to their fans’ delight and amazement they reunited for two tours and I got to see them two years running, in 2010 and 2011, which was absolutely (yes) brilliant!

We took D both times (with her headphones) and she still finds it quite hard to connect the band in their 80’s videos if they pop onto Vintage TV with the more mature men she saw performing!

And those lyrics:

“Couldn’t you let it lie?

With a smile and subterfuge

You dance your savage dance

Some hidden cause you cannot justify

A lie’s a lie

Couldn’t you let it lie?

Couldn’t you let it lie?

Conscience clear and sanctified

You wash your sins away

In God’s name you start your holy war

Who’s it for?

Couldn’t you let it lie?”

Listen to it. Loud.
