Anticipation – Tues 22nd Sept 2015

By | September 22, 2015

There’s a definite air of anticipation around this week and it’s lovely.

It’s Hubbie’s birthday on Friday and D’s been sharing in the counting down, the “what’s the day after tomorrow” etc and looking at the pictures of what will hopefully arrive – although good old Amazon appear to have lost some at the moment.

Up until a couple of years ago, D didn’t recognise her birthday as being a special day and now she positively embraces the whole she-bang.  The next step was her accepting the fact that, just because it’s someone else’s birthday, it’s not hers too (gosh now that would be expensive!) so for her to get all excited about Hubbie’s birthday is lovely and just a bit contagious.

Another aspect that is welcomed is the fact that we finally have a school timetable (albeit one with gaps), it makes it SO much easier to talk with (or sometimes just to) D about the lessons she’ll be having that morning and knowing when she’ll have her favourites (singing, science and music) will always bring an extra smile to her face.

Tomorrow sees her attendance at an after school club (Music, Singing and Theatre), which – she told me tonight – she didn’t really enjoy but didn’t show on her face that she wasn’t happy (her words) which I guess is another level of understanding isn’t it, that of masking those not-so-positive feelings.

It does explain the rather fast bolt that greeted me when I picked her up last week.

We shall see, I guess, as long as she gives it a chance, she’ll do well.  An example of how anticipation can not work so well in this instance.

Fingers crossed.

What a shame she found theatre club a bit of a let down when she was so looking forward to it. Hope it gets better! Love the quote you’ve used!

Fingers crossed, I couldn’t persuade Monkey to try any of his after school clubs and I think we will have to stop swimming lessons as he’s getting more distressed each week. I like the sound of the timetable even with gaps. Monkey is coping so much better with school in Year One as they have a more fixed routine #SSAA

That’s good to hear that Monkey was doing well, hope it continues that way for him 🙂

Miss S now seems to understand the whole birthday thing, she doesn’t quite get that its not always her birthday! I think having a timetable definitely helps and its great to be able to have a conversation starter. Hope D enjoys after school club #SSAmazingAchievements

Such a lovely post. It’s always good to hear positive things, and it’s really sweet that she’s getting excited about your husband’s birthday. I do hope she gives the after school club a bit more of a go and starts enjoying it. Great about the timetable too. #SSAmazingAchievements

It’s so lovely to read that D looks forward to her own birthday and now to your hubbies. It’s one of the things I hope we will get too in time. I’m glad she finally (sort of) has a timetable to know what is happening at school. Keeping everything crossed she starts looking forward to her after school club.

Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)

I’m sure you will get there with Ethan too, it’s a case of he’ll get there when he’s ready x
