Reversal – Sun 7th June 2015
By Jeannette | June 7, 2015
We’ve had a day with a difference today, T and D seemed to switch personalities for the day.
Mind you, it didn’t start terribly well for D with shrieks, screams and loud music waking her up c/o the neighbouring garden this morning. Not good, especially as it seemed to set the tone for the rest of her day. She refused to stay in her room, as it looks out on the gardens, or go outside and so, she’s secreted herself away in our room. Quiet and not seeking cuddles as she would normally.
T, on the other hand, has been quite gregarious, for T. He’s usually a “don’t touch me” type of chappie but today he’s been up for tickling and wrestling. The downside has been that T cannot read when a situation either reaches a natural end or my body language is saying “oww, that hurts, please stop!”. I bruise easily and already have quite a few from the gym equipment, I think they’ve been added to today, via T.
It’s been nice though, to see him laughing and smiling, he’s had so much change this year what with secondary school, him leaving earlier to catch the school bus and homework … lots of homework. He’s coped well, far better than we envisaged but will be more than ready for the summer holidays – when my challenge will be getting him beyond the back gate occasionally!
The last word has to go to D though. She’s had a bit of a grump this evening that the weekend is over and it’s back to school tomorrow. I said something like “the weekend always goes quickly because we’re relaxing and having fun” (definitely not dwelling on her start to the day because she’d then remember and get anxious all over again) and she replied (sulkily) “humph, yeah!”, I have been wondering if teenage moods would pass us by (as life with autism brings its own ups and downs) but maybe our little tween will have some? Time will tell, her reply and the way it was executed did make me smile though.
I hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx
