This Week’s Cheerfulness #R2BC

By | July 11, 2014

The end of another busy week, a week that’s felt a bit bittersweet because there’s been some fabulous things happening but there’s someone no longer around to tell. But, life goes on and so here’s my Reasons To Be Cheerful:

1. Proms Week

D’s school have had a wonderful week of musical performances.. It’s an annual event and I attend marvelling at the patience and perseverance of the staff for assisting SN children in their performance but it’s also incredibly moving when the more severely disabled children are performing on stage.

This was D singing:

2. A Tie

We all attended an introductory evening at T’s school that he’ll be attending from September. There was a uniform shop set up but it was like commuting on the underground (ie a very busy scrum), we’ve got 8 weeks to get uniform so I wasn’t going to subject T to afore-mentioned scrum. One thing we did get was the school tie as he needs to practise with it. Initial attempts have resulted in fits of giggles and I can envisage some tie-tying contests between T and Mr Bluecrisps in the next few weeks.

One thing we did find out from speaking to the Head is that out of the 35 appeal cases heard a month ago, we were one of only 6 successful appeallants. Six! We went away thinking how incredibly lucky we were and how grateful that we’d gone through it. Even though it was 8 months of stress.

3. Thinking ahead

The school holidays are looming closer and with that the prospect of a vastly decreased me-time, not that I would want it any other way.

I need to fit (for me) in an eye test, a catch up lunch, catch up coffees, a haircut and a doctor’s appointment before schools break up.

Then there’s the outings and trips we want to do, all needing to be planned as neither T or D react well to spontaneity, something we’ve learnt from experience.

4. The World Cup

This may seem like an unusual one for me but the tournament is finishing this weekend. Having a husband and a son who are passionate about football has meant that between the tournament and Hubbie’s busy workbook, I feel like I’m not seen him for a while.

His busy workload and overly demanding people have meant that he’s missed out completely on the Proms and also sports days but that’s what photos are for, eh?

5. That Friday feeling

An inner cheer because it’s the weekend and we carried on our little tradition of “best and worst bits of the week” around the dinner table. T made us laugh with his choices, he has a lovely sense of humour.
