The Fortune Cookie – Tues 17th June 2014

By | June 17, 2014

One thing that D always enjoys on a Friday (yes, I know it’s Tuesday, bear with me!) is heading off with Hubbie to the fish and chip shop. Because she knows the journey, the route the car will be taking and that it’s straight there and straight back, she doesn’t have the usual anxieties associated with being apart from me. She knows it’s not for long.

I can just imagine them, walking hand-in-hand to the shop, D having a little excited flap as they go in and then ordering.

She always gets given a free fortune cookie too. Sometimes the sayings are confusing to her because she does take things very literally, for example “The lucky number 4 will be knocking on your door”. This must have been very perplexing, just imagine the thought of a gigantic (hopefully friendly) number 4 (a bit like the Numberjacks arriving on the doorstep? Lucky or scary?

Anyway, D had this fortune cookie a few months ago:

And I kept it because it’s her school sports day tomorrow and her house colour is yellow.

Hopefully there will be sunshine. It’s always lots of fun, individual events in the morning and then races in the afternoon. Lots of practice and gentle encouragement by the staff makes for a really good time.

Here’s D last year:

The children are all told “it’s not the winning, it’s the taking part” and inevitably competitiveness rears but to watch all those SN children smiling, laughing and having fun in their setting (maybe having previously not been able to tolerate a mainstream sports day environment) is wonderful and a bit humbling. There may be a few proud silent tears beneath my sunglasses, a must for these occasions.

It will definitely be one to remember and let’s hope that fortune cookie comes through!

It being Tuesday has also been Costa cooler time with T whilst D was at after-school club. I was wondering whether we’ll still be available to do these in September as he’ll be travelling back on the school bus, but we’ll aim to. Even if it’s 45 minutes of football and FIFA facts, it’s still good and a chance for some 1:1 time. T is growing up so quickly, I hope it’s a few years before it’s definitely not cool to be seen with his mum.

Anyway, I hope everyone’s day has gone well, thanks for reading Jx
