Technical? Moi? #WhatsTheStory

Technical? No, no, no. Not me.

I’ve never been a very technical person, that annoyed me when I first started blogging.

I stumbled my way around publishing a few posts and then asked a couple of bloggers whose posts I enjoyed reading to give me some feedback.

They came back with suggestions for layout, inclusion of tags and a tag line and widgets. Widgets? What were they?

The idea of widgets worried me. I couldn’t work out how to add the codes in and where and remember adding in a blogging forums widget, but not saving it and just wondering where the code had gone and what had I done wrong. I put in text when I shouldn’t have, that sort of thing. I got into such a kerfuffle that in the end, the wonderful and super lovely Annie at Mammasaurus helped me.

The first time I added in a widget code by myself and it worked (!), I wanted to tell everyone! But I didn’t, that would have made me feel even dafter than I already did. Everyone else’s blogs looked brill with their badges and their linkies and their links within posts, how difficult could it be?

Earlier this year I faced another technical issue. The Notes section on the ipad. Something I use more-than-daily on my phone but it wasn’t replicating over. It had started out okay, but just stopped one day. Annoyingly, because now I’d worked out how to input badge codes and stuff in posts, this was a useful way of keeping them near.

I researched online, no answers apart from removing any apps one by one and reinstalling. Testing in between. No luck.

I went into the Apple store. The assistant looked, rebooted, ummed and aaahed and suggested what I’d already found out. No joy.

I adapted by emailing over the codes if I was blogging on there. Inconvenient but there seemed no other way. It wouldn’t even load, just crashed straight back out.

Until yesterday. I was changing the footnote on our email accounts, we have three – one for general and Hubbie’s work, one for autismmumma and one for family.

I noticed that the main Notes account default was different to that of my phone. Changed it and voila! Notes is now back and I did it. Me! Myself. That very admittedly non-technical blogger who took the plunge and went self-hosted last year (and isn’t looking back).

Slightly annoyed that it’s taken so long but hurrah!!!

Making a grab badge might be next, with a little bit of text, but it might be a while….

Thanks Charly, it was a “yay” moment! Frustrating that something so simple couldn’t have been sorted sooner but all done now 🙂
