Looking forward – Fri 13th June 2014

By | June 13, 2014

I’ve only just realised that today is Friday 13th, after typing in the date. Unlucky for some, but probably explains why Hubbie and I have been a tad snappy with each other today, that and the massive roller coaster week we’ve just had. Anyway….

D and I had a school run with a difference today, one that will be regular from September.

T, after our successful appeal this week, will be travelling on a school bus from September and this means that our school run through suburbia will stop, at least in the good weather anyway.

At the moment, it’s a trek to the busy road of T’s primary and then a walk down another busy road, past D’s old primary school, across crossings etc…D always collects fallen rose petals along the way and we have our Green Car songs or the Car Tax Disc game.. I always worry that she’ll get anxious and bolt into the road so it’s play-along but eyes everywhere.

From September, we’ll be able to school run (walk) through what D calls “The Deep Dark Woods” near us, bringing us out opposite her school.

It’s a lovely walk and here’s some pictures from this morning:

Heading into the DDW:

Plenty of these, thank goodness D had leggings on, I was stung to bits in my cropped jeans. Pretty though:

This pond was completely dry before Christmas, it’s lovely how the plants grow out of felled trunks:

These wild flower heads just looked amazing:

All too soon, we neared the clearing and back to suburbia:

The birds were chirping, butterflies and bees flying around, it was a lovely way to start the day and once which we’ll definitely continue in good weather.

We have our own little wild patch happening at home, I’ve left a wide strip natural near our picket fence to see what grows and it’s doing very well! Hopefully it will attract all sorts of insects, the cats like going through the long grass too.

Niggly bits aside, a good end to a fantastic week. D was very eager to do her “best and worst bits of the week” at tea time as ever. Hope everyone’s day has gone well Jx

Thanks, as long as it’s not muddy, it’s a lovely walk to school 🙂
