Sometimes change is not good – Thurs 30th Jan 2014

By | January 30, 2014

Thursdays are always long school days for T and D, both having after-school sports clubs. T has basketball and D has trampolining, additionally both finishing at the same time so Hubbie will finish work earlier, whizz to get T and then zoom down to get D and I as D gets anxious about “getting home late and missing tea time”.

Today should have been easier as T decided he didn’t want to do basketball so it was agreed with D before she went into school this morning that Hubbie would collect her and I’d be waiting at home with T, with tea ready. It should have been okay, shouldn’t it?

It wasn’t. Whether D had forgotten that there was a change or whether she was just completely tired and needing a “Mumma hug”, it was a grouchy and not happy D that returned.

Everything seemed to be out of sync for her and she resisted any efforts to rectify. On the one hand, hungry and on the other, seeking sanctuary in her zone, unable to accept the change, however much she had been aware.

Change is inevitable in life, but it is also the thing that causes anxiety for T and D, hopefully it will become easier to manage with maturity.

T hasn’t had the best of days either, he came out of school late and extremely upset and cross that a fellow pupil had been verbally insulted by another. He found it easier to tell me about it without D being there but was concerned that the school might not act. Accordingly to him though, the pupil was with staff who were asking him what had happened so I’ve had to reassure T that I’m sure processes will be followed and he should let them deal with it.

Tomorrow is another day and Friday (yippee!), that always makes D happy.

I hope everyone’s day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx

And it can be those small innocent changes that cause the most upset, been reading this and nodding.
Happy Friday to you all!

I’ll never forget the Christmas that I moved the table around a different way in the kitchen so we could all sit there with my parents for dinner.
Max walked in and *screamed*. He was inconsolable for the rest of the day, bless his little heart. Since then I always make sure he sees what I’m doing when changing anything around. Or if I can’t, we’ve taken to saying “look Max, SURPRISE!”, which helps him to know that there’s a change coming.
At least now it’s the weekend!
