Progress but at a cost – Fri 6th Dec 2013

By | December 6, 2013

As I write this post tonight, I’m feeling a battered autism parent, both mentally and physically.

We spent much of today at the hospital, for D’s clinic appointment. I’m pleased that they are being proactive, listening and genuinely want what is best for D long term, it’s been a long day though.

There was the appointment, then a wait for numbing cream to work for blood tests, coupled with waiting for the medication she’d be having, then the bloods and then an injection. No numbing cream was utilised for the latter and it was not popular.

D was absolutely furious with the shock of the pain and wanted to bolt. The only way I could calm her was to take the focus away and get her to hit my arm, as hard as she wanted and how she’d felt it hurt. And boy, it must have hurt because there were some very hard whacks to my arm, she’s got some strength! I’m not recommending this method at all, but it seemed to work. As (gulp), we have another in two weeks and then they’ll go to monthly, I need another strategy!

All things considered (and bashing aside), she did extremely well today and we just had time to find this before getting back for T:

It was a very tired T who came home after his two school football matches this afternoon, a good result in both though.

Unfortunately the combination of a tired T and a getting-over-today’s-events D has meant for some sparring – sometimes physically – which hasn’t done either of them any good. It’s getting so that they can’t be left in the same room, even if I’m just in the kitchen, in the next room. A combination of pre-teen hormones, tiredness and irritability I guess.

And still no sign of Bunny..

I’m glad today is over, D’s cold is diminishing and it’s the weekend. I hope everyone’s day has gone well, comments/RTs/shares as ever welcomed, thanks for reading Jx
