#MusicMonday “Nobodies Diary” – Yazoo

By | July 8, 2013

It’s been a while since I’ve done a #MusicMonday, my head has been bunged up with everything that’s been going on and I’ve been listening to my old trusty favourites rather than seeking out "new oldies but goodies".

Today’s song is one of my absolute 80’s favourites, I used to sing along wishing I had a deeper voice like Alison Moyet’s.

I never used to understand the fuss about her size too, I think a lot of it was the fact she wore what she wanted and refused to be styled, she was very obviously her own woman which maybe didn’t fit in with the manufactured pop that was just starting to appear.

I also loved the lyrics, ironically for a blog-a-day blogger I never used to stick to a diary. I’d have a notebook where I’d write down teenage-angst type thoughts and the odd (sometimes very odd) poem but I could never stick to a diary.

Here’s the lyrics, followed by the video, thanks for reading Jx

"If I wait for just a second more,
I know I’ll forget what I came here for,
My head was so full of things to say,
But as I open my lips all my words slip away
And anyway,
I can’t believe you want to turn the page,
And move your life onto another stage,
You can change the chapter you can change the book,
But the story remains the same if you’d take a look.

(Chorus)
For the times we’ve had I don’t want to be – a page in your diary babe,
For the good, the bad I don’t want to see – a page in your diary babe,
For the happy, the sad – I don’t want to be another page in your diary.

Perhaps if I held you I could win again,
I could take your hands we’d talk and maybe then –
That look in your eyes I always recognise,
Would tell me everything is gonna be fine,
You’re gonna be mine
For a long time…

(Chorus)
For the times we’ve had I don’t want to be – a page in your diary babe,
For the good, the bad I don’t want to see – a page in your diary babe,
For the happy, the sad – I don’t want to be another page in your diary.

For the times we’ve had I don’t want to be – a page in your diary babe,
For the good, the bad I don’t want to see – a page in your diary babe,
For the happy, the sad – I don’t want to be another page in your history."

I love Alison Mpyet’s voice! And I was reading that while singing along in my head.
